Before we can talk about the ethics of artificial intelligence, we need a foundation. Scripture gives us one. Here are 10 principles from God’s Word, and the teachings of Jesus that put them into practice.

Why Christians Need a Foundation First

Scripture gives us a complete and sufficient framework for human innovation. When we start with God’s Word, we can use AI with wisdom and faithfulness instead of fear or blind enthusiasm.

This guide has two parts. First, 10 foundational principles. Then, six pillars of AI ethics drawn straight from the words of Jesus.

The 10 Foundations

Ten principles from Scripture that every believer can bring to AI.

Imago Dei: The Mandate to Create

We are made in God’s image. Our ability to build tools like AI reflects the nature of our Creator.

“And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.”Genesis 1:26 (KJV)

The Creation Mandate: A Call to Subdue

God told humanity to manage and care for creation. AI can be a powerful tool for that work.

“And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.”Genesis 1:28 (KJV)

Stewardship: The Responsibility of Power

We are stewards, not owners. Every resource, technology included, belongs to God and should be managed for His glory.

Wisdom: The Prudent Path

Scripture calls us to be prudent. A biblical approach to AI avoids both naive adoption and fearful rejection. It chooses careful discernment.

Love: The Ultimate Metric

Measure every use of AI against the two great commandments. Does it help us love God and love our neighbor?

Excellence: The Standard of Work

All work, including work done with AI, should be done heartily, as to the Lord, with integrity and diligence.

Truth: The Rejection of Deception

We follow a God of truth. Use AI to be honest and transparent, and to fight falsehood, never to create it.

Counsel: The Pursuit of Safety

Wisdom is found in community. Big decisions about AI deserve counsel from mature believers and godly leaders.

Dignity: The Primacy of Humanity

AI is a tool to serve people, not replace them. Use it to help people flourish and to protect human dignity.

“What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him? For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, and hast crowned him with glory and honour.”Psalm 8:4-5 (KJV)

Service: The Posture of Engagement

Our approach should be selfless. Use AI to serve others and carry one another’s burdens.

“Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others.”Philippians 2:4 (KJV)

Part Two

AI Ethics from Jesus’ Teachings

The question isn’t if Christians should use AI. It’s how. The answer is in the teachings of Jesus Christ. His words are the bedrock for a Christian AI ethic that lasts.

The Six Pillars of a Christian AI Ethic

I. The Golden Rule: The Algorithm of Empathy

Before you use or deploy any AI system, ask: “If I were affected by this, would I call it just and fair?” Use AI to uphold human dignity, not diminish it.

II. Love Your Neighbor: The Mandate for Service

Technology should be an instrument of love. Ethical AI serves communities, strengthens human connection, and solves real problems. It is never a tool for exploitation, division, or selfish gain.

III. Truth and Honesty: The Rejection of Deception

Jesus calls us to plain honesty. In an age of deepfakes and disinformation, Christians should be transparent. Disclose AI help where it matters, and refuse to create or spread falsehood.

IV. Faithful Stewardship: The Governance of Power

We are stewards of the powerful tools we build. That means thinking soberly about AI’s long-term impact, from jobs to spiritual formation, and managing it responsibly.

V. Humility: The Recognition of Limits

AI is powerful but fallible. It has no consciousness, no spiritual discernment, and no real wisdom. Never let its output replace prayer, Scripture, and human judgment.

VI. Seek the Kingdom: The Ultimate Priority

Our first aim is God’s kingdom. Every use of AI should serve that purpose and help fulfill the Great Commission, not distract from it.
