AI gave you exactly what you said — not what you meant. That is not an AI problem. It is an instructions problem. Lesson 13 of Building Your AI Ark teaches you how to design a workflow: the map every agent follows to get you the results you actually want.
Why AI Needs Clearer Instructions
People fill in gaps from shared experience; AI cannot. It takes your words literally, so your instructions have to carry the outcome, the steps, and the rules.
The Cereal Problem
Ask AI for a bowl of cereal being made and it may hand you a bowl made OUT of cereal. You said “a bowl of cereal being made.” AI gave you exactly what you said — not what you meant.
What a Workflow Is
A workflow has four parts:
- Start with the outcome (what finished looks like).
- Map the steps (each step a clear action, in order).
- Mark the decision points (where a choice has to be made, and who makes it).
- Establish the rules (the boundaries the work must stay inside).
The Workflow Outlasts the Tool
Tools change and agents improve, but a workflow you have written down and saved in files you control survives every change — a new tool or a new agent can pick it up and run it.
